This is a photo I took during my second year in Congo. I was in Kananga interviewing volunteers for our nutrition program for a story I was doing. One of them told me about this malnourished boy. So we went to see him. He was in such bad shape that we took him that day to malnutrition center in Tshikaji, not far from where he lived. I came back a few months later and he was a new boy. Nutrition work is some of the most gratifying work in places like this, where people really only need to be taught how to nourish a sick child back from health. Unfortunately his still takes a small amount of money and some just don’t have it. That was the case with this family. But at least in this case our small act of kindness made for a happy ending. And a healthy child.
