This picture pretty much sums up our time in Etosha National Park. You’ve got the oryx and the zebras to the left, the lone wildebeest in the distance, the springboks peppering the landscape, and the timid giraffe patiently waiting for the big, brave elephant bull to finish washing, drinking and straight chilling in the watering hole at Dolomite Camp in the far west of the park. The funny thing is, this bull really did take his sweet time. After playing around at the edge of the pond he went to the center and splashed around some more. Then back to the edge and playfully used his trunk to spray his body with the precious water as if he were taunting the giraffe. And the REALLY funny thing is the giraffe just stood there staring longingly at the water until he eventually gave up and walked back to where he came from. He never even took a sip of water! People say that lions are the king of the jungle/savannah and if that’s the case, the elephant is the almighty god that all other animals, including the king, worship.
