This woman, pictured to the left is my favorite woman. Ok, one of them. I have many. But THIS woman is special. Her name is Nelly Pamba and she is the head nurse at Kawadje Health Center outside of Gbadolite, Nord Ubangi. Her village had no health center and she knew they needed one. So what did she do? She got the community together and they built a health center with only the materials they could find right there in the earth they stood on. They made bricks from mud and a roof from the palms. And for years she healed the sick in this small place. And then IMA came along. And my beautiful man designed a new health center, and he mixed cement with his own hands, and he led the team that built this woman a new health center out of durable materials. A roof that didn’t leak. A foundation and bricks that didn’t erode in the rainy season. And now she is there, healing even more sick people and attending births with all of the equipment necessary to do it safely. Kudos to the team at IMA. They moved mountains.
