Being an only child, I have always been naturally inclined to do things myself. This mentality was also instilled in me by my father. Not that he specifically taught me to do things myself, he was a rather quiet man when it came to instilling life lessons on his daughter, but he was a man of action and I learned a lot from watching him do things. He fixed everything himself, built everything himself, tinkered in his garage with various engines and tools and toys by himself. He did most things himself and I have always thought that this was really cool. And it is. But I am really learning how important teamwork is in all aspects of my life. I am finding that most things are done so much better if you elicit the help of others. We aren’t accustomed to asking for help in our modern day “western” society. We take pride in our individualism, but I am working to move past that and circle back to the village mentality where we work together to achieve, or at least lighten the load.
