This is a photo I took when I first moved to Congo. I didn’t know anything about taking photos and especially in low light, so this is blurry but I still love it. She is a new mother in one of the health centers our program had just begun assisting. It was still early in the project so the equipment we purchased for our health centers hadn’t made it to these far reaches yet. Soon after this photo was taken many of our health centers were renovated and beds purchased, but for this woman, this was the maternity. This is where this new mother had to sit and recover from her delivery. In a dark room on a dirty floor. And yet one can see the look of contentment in her eyes.
