In Costa Rica, fence posts are living, breathing organisms. They grow and wrap themselves around the bob wire that connects them. This is the head of one such fence post on the property where I am currently staying in San Ramon while my partner spends his days building our container home. I haven’t been leaving the house much here because I had it in my head that there wasn’t much to see. I really don’t think this is ever the truth. Even when your eyes are closed there are shapes moving and light playing on the inside of your lids. It’s just that in some places you have to look harder. You have to pay attention to the details, which is what I am doing, really doing, for the nine more days that I am holed up in this home in San Ramon. Today I really saw this fence post.
