This is a picture I took from the bottom of Sossusvlei’s most infamous dune, Dune 54. This is the dune that everyone talks about hiking to the top of and watching the most glorious sunrise. This was the plan we had for this dune but unfortunately, our plans weren’t good enough. We didn’t know that you had to stay inside the park in order to make it to Dune 54 in time for sunset since they don’t even open the park until just before. Also, I was six months pregnant and after enduring the hike out to Deadvlei the morning before, I just didn’t have it in me to climb to the top of this monster. So this is my photo. And this is just one more reason why I must return to Namibia someday!
