This is one of my all-time favorite photos of Antonio and his best friend, Jim, at the opening of ASSP’s first health center, Mamu Wetu. This health center was special because Antonio got to build much of it with his own hands. Jim was his logistician throughout the building of this and many others in Kasai. I went along for many rides in the bush with these two crazy cats photographing the health centers they were building. I felt like we were the three musketeers on the adventure of a lifetime. And then after a long days drive we would head back to Kananga to sit under Jim’s mango tree and drink a Tembo. Or whiskey.
