This is a photo I snapped from the parking lot where we waited for the shuttle that took us the last sandy leg of the journey to Sossusvlei. Yes, even the parking lot was mesmerizingly beautiful!

We woke at 5 am every morning to catch the sunrise over the dunes and each morning there was this beautiful mist rising from the ground. And then by 9 it was so hot you could barely stand to walk five feet. Especially at six months pregnant. That’s when I headed for the pool at Hoodia, our beautiful desert lodge just outside the park.
