There is a lot of focus on women and girls in my line of work and for good reason. We should definitely keep focusing on women and children. But we need more programs that focus on men and boys. Maybe even more than the women and girls because in Congo, the men often make the decision for the women, like whether they are allowed to start birth control or seek treatment for a child that has malaria. If we had more programs that focused on teaching men to see their women as equals who can make decisions for themselves and their family, this would make all the other work we do so much easier. And boys become men so we could start with them. Like these boys I photographed at Bosobolo Hospital in Nord Ubangi.
