After a 1.2 km hike through the ancient city of Petra, you reach its grandest treasure, the Monastery. What I wouldn’t give to go back in time to 9000 BC when this city was settled and see it in its day, full of life and markets and ancient people.
The inside of the monastery was sealed shut. You can see in the photo below, only the front room is available for viewing. I imagine grand hallways tunneling through the stone mountain to all kinds of secret nooks and crannies.
