Young Nun

Bigu Monastery, Nepal

I took this photo while volunteering at a Tibetan monastery in Nepal near the border of Tibet. This is one of the young nuns that I was teaching English to during my two-week stay Bigu Monastery. It’s interesting how these nuns end up in the monastic life. Some choose it from a very young age, but most were sent by their parents to become nuns, either because the parents couldn’t provide and wanted a better life for them or because they wanted them to pursue a spiritual path.

Unfortunately, I lost all of the originals of my trip to Nepal. I still have some hope that they will turn up on some dusty hard drive tucked away in a box somewhere, but for now, this is all I have left.
